Faith Annett Introductory Blog

Hello! My name is Faith Annett. I am a sophomore at UAF this year and a transfer student from a school in Colorado that I attended last year. I was born and raised in Alaska and love it here! I am studying elementary education with the hopes of one day teaching in some of the rural Alaskan villages. The artwork below is one that appeals to me because I love art including nature especially artwork of Alaska.

I am not in any way an artist although I would like to be one day, however I don't really have any artistic ability through painting, drawing, or any other kind of medium. I do really enjoy looking at art and learning about the history behind certain pieces of art. I've never been to an art museum, but I do think that I would enjoy it and learning about more of the different types of art. I hope to learn a lot in this class and dig deeper into different variations of artwork. One type of artwork that I do especially love to watch is watercolor. I have many peers who use watercolor paints to do their art and I think it is just so fascinating. I have included a link to a youtube video that is an artist doing a landscape painting with watercolor which I really enjoy.

  1. Hi Faith! I also enjoy Alaskan art. I think that you should definitely go to an art museum or art show one day!

  3. Hello Faith! The watercolor you shared is beautiful, the water ripples are super impressive. I love blending like that in paintings. If you're interested in watercolors, you should try a winsor & newton set. They're pretty small, portable, and come with a brush and you can mix the colors on the tray. And good quality

  4. Hi Faith, I highly recommend checking out the local art in Fairbanks if visiting art museums is something you think you'd be interested in. There are various cafes and galleries all over town with absolutely beautiful art.

  5. Hello Faith. I am also not an artist, but I do like art. Similarly to you, I like art that has to do with nature. I love the picture that you posted of the mountains and the water. It is cool that the painter included so many different aspects to the painting, where the base of the mountains are green while the tops are rocky, and snowy. The water absolutely amazes me. It is only a washed out reflection of the mountains and sky, with some ripples, but it looks really good. The video that you posted was pretty cool. It was interesting to see the creation of such a beautiful masterpiece. I liked being able to see that the painting got so much better with each additional stroke of paint.
